Roger Federer and Mirka Vavrinec welcomed twin girls yesterday. Roger announced the great news via his Facebook page.

“I have some exciting news to share with you,” Federer said. “Late last night, in Switzerland, Mirka and I became proud parents of twin girls.”

The couple named the twins Charlene Riva and Myla Rose.

Will the girls be future GOATs too? Andy Roddick thinks they will definitely be Wimbledon greats. He tweeted and sent his congratulations to the new proud parents.

wimbledon womens champs in 2029-2040 …. the federer girls :) congrats to the new parents!”

Only time will tell but with The GOAT as your father, it’s not impossible.

Congratulations Roger and Mirka!

Maria Sharapova is feeling good

July 23, 2009

Maria Sharapova said yesterday at a press conference during her World Team Tennis appearance for the Newport Beach Breakers that her shoulder is fully healed.

“I am a hundred percent,” Sharapova said. “I mean, if I wasn’t at that point, I certainly wouldn’t be playing. That’s why I took my time and gave myself a chance to really go out there and to feel like I didn’t have any excuses.”

Masha played all the events she could at last night’s match; women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles and won all of them. She looked super solid last night, accurately hit lines, winners (her BH down the line is kind of perfect, yo), pounded on second serves and only committed one double fault the entire match. Seemed to me like she’s adjusted quite well now on that new abbreviated service motion.

Here are some of my photos from the match:

At first I thought the headband looked funny but it is now growing on me! And FYI, that kid she helped during the little game they played? Didn’t win.

I wish I were a sports photographer and have super fast telephoto lenses at my disposal to provide awesome action shots for you guys but I am not so I had to make do with whatever equipment lifestyle/portrait photographers have.

Roger Federer unveiled his star plate at Basel’s Hall of Fame today. The 15-time Grand Slam champion was honored at his hometown in the delight of all his home buddies. Like they have a choice.

All Roger dislike aside, I’m surprised he was just given this honor. It’s not like Switzerland boasts a handful of tennis champions like GOAT.

This guy is in love with his name like you wouldn’t believe. Look at that look of love he’s giving the plate.

Rafanatics rejoice!

Former World Number 1, Rafael Nadal, is expected to return playing on the ATP World Tour next month at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada. Rafa has been sidelined due to a knee injury since the French Open where he fell in the 4th round. He was unable to defend his Wimbledon title and has slipped down to Number 2 in the rankings.

According to Rafa’s publicist, Benito Perez-Barbadillo, he is “slowly recovering from his injury.” He will take on the practice courts next Monday.
